Untold Stories of the ER: Real or Fake

Untold stories of the ER, is a show that I have watched multiple times. However I have always wondered and questioned whether this show is real or fake. I know that the actual film being watched has to be a reenactment because of HIPA standards protect the patients.

The question is, are the stories being reenacted true or made up.

I am a certified EMT and CNA so I do have some background in the medical field. This is the main reason why I question the show. When listening to the show, the actors or "doctors" do use terminology that professionals use and use them in the correct way. This adds to the trustworthiness of the show. However some of the things that happen in the ER are things that would or should not normally allowed. For example, I do not think that I questionable woman off the street "if you know what I mean" that is not a patient should be allowed into the ER. This woman also was the reason that another woman was in the hospital.

The ER doctor thought that it would be best to put her in a room and have someone watch her while he gets the woman's shoe that she put through other woman's face. This would never have happened. I believe that in real life the police would have been involved and she would most certainly not get her shoe back after being put through someone's face.

This in a way shows that the stories might to twisted into something that did not originally happen. Does this mean that the show adds to the drama to keep people interested. Maybe, maybe not. I think that show business something is always added, normal life is just not interesting enough, after all don't people watch TV to get away from life?

  1. I watched an episode in which a nurse goes into hypoglycemic shock from eating an orange that had been used to practise insulin injections. Supposedly the amount of insulin in the orange caused her blood sugar to crash. This is medically impossible as insulin that is taken by mouth is digested and does not go into the bloodstream. It does not cause any change in blood sugar. (Also, it happens to taste like crap and would be very noticeable if the person had functional taste buds.)

  2. The doctors are real, though the reenactments may not be. I just watched an episode and the doctor on it is my current real life doctor.

  3. I watched about 5 minutes and have very strong suspicions the whole thing is fake. If they are real doctors then they have sold their souls.

  4. I'm hooked on this intriguing show and i wonder about whether some actual injured patients are somehow filmed as their injuries, or illnesses, look so bad and so real. I've noticed that no one ever dies - and that is unreal, if forgiveable, in making the show uplifting. The actors are very good at "dumbing down" their behavior to make themselves look ordinary but i know some doctors shown are bona fide. It is educational in any event.

  5. Yeah it's fake. A guy in a wheelchair was needing dire help, by the end of the episode, he's either passed out or dead, and can be seen in the background.

  6. I'm sorry I watched two episodes just now and it seems awfully strange that every Dr., Patient, and others involved all seem to come off as actors do. There's just something about a person who has never been in front of a camera before. It's the little things like the way they speak, certain inflections on their words and even the way they look into the camera. These "doctors" are just a little too comfortable in front of the camera and I'm sorry but everything about them and most of the patients and their family members seem to sound the same way is to coincidental. The first episode was the one with the little boy who's heart stopped in a restaurant while a female ER Dr. Was there eating with her Fiance and future in-laws. She seemed way too comfortable in front of the lens and just the way she spoke sounded like a trained actor. Then the second episode was the husband and wife ER team that had two Valentine's day traumas come in. One a blender and he other a twisted testicle. I'm actually watching the second one right now and it's not finished. The husband in this episode has a believability to him but his wife does not... Not even close.... She's an actor..... Plus they both are perfect specimens which is not impossible but that in my opinion makes it more likely they are actors. Oh yeah in case you haven't figured it out yet nearly all actors make it their full time job being as beautiful as humanly possible, and almost all are in the top few percent of the most beautiful people on Earth. Of course there's always the non conforming ones that are needed for specific roles where looks are either not important or they need to be less than perfect for the narrative. Yet ask any person in Hollywood they will tell you only the really beautiful ones even have a chance to get through the door. All others that make it in the business are like lightning strikes. Extremely rare and no one knows who will make it and who won't. Also not saying all beautiful people make it but their chances are so much greater than an average looking person or even more than an ugly or overweight person. It's sad but that's just how shallow we are.....
